The Founder Of Chainsaw Art

2009_0828Rpix0001 (640x480).jpg

In 1952 Ray Murphy the founder of chainsaw art sawed the world's original real chainsaw art with his dad's chainsaw. Ray sawed RAY on a firewood log using the only chainsaw his dad ever owned. The chainsaw was a converted two-man that was made in Vancover BC in 1947. The chain was the old style scratcher chain. Ray's dad bought the saw to saw ice for the ice house and made it into a one-man chainsaw. Ray became very good at sharpening the old chain with a bastard file and repairing the links. At that time Ray was only ten years old and the chainsaw replaced the cross-cut saws he and his brother were using. Ray chainsawed many messages to his bother and others. Ray sawed signs and furniture. The chainsaw was like a toy for Ray and he expermented alot on flat artwork. In 1953 Ray founded sawing 3D chainsaw sculpting on fence post and stumps. It was not long until Ray had an audience watching as Ray founded performance chainsaw art.

Ray Murphy Founded Chainsaw Art

When Ray Murphy founded chainsaw are he used only a chainsaw. Ray has been sawing chainsaw art for 621/2 years without ever using carving tools and has no desire to become a carver. Ray has many friends who are carvers and they wish they could run a chainsaw like Ray does. Ray has helped many carvers learn how to speed up their carving but Ray does not carve. Ray does not do any sanding on his art at all. Real sawed chainsaw art is Ray's specialty.
